project      dilaab

Let new India arise out of peasants' cottages, grasping the plough, out of huts, cobblers, and sweepers.

                   ~ Swami Vivekanand

dilaab:

[dill-aab]    adj

Dilaab is believed to originate as an Urdu-Arabic word, as well as has been found to stem from Visayan language, which is a part of Austronesian languages of Philippines.

The word "Dilaab" in the literal sense refers to a strong flame that burns brightly.

Under Project Dilaab, Enactus KNC wishes to aid as many communities in need of work during the gravely challenging time of COVID-19 and one of the most severely affected were the small-scale workers and local artists.

The porter community, once a cherished asset of the Indian handicraft culture is now rampantly being replaced by the big conglomerates.

Ready-made factory-produced wares are replacing the authentically sculpted goods by the potters of our community. What is needed is a shift from the capitalists enterprise to our local producers.

To ensure sustainability, we are moving towards making this project as indigenous as possible all the while ensuring that the porters are involved in the complete line of production and thus they would be able to  adopt the project and practise it easily for their income generation.

With that in mind, Enactus KNC aims to employ the services of the potters by using their handmade earthen pots as the foundation for our beeswax candles. These pots are made out of clay and are thus 100 percent biodegradable in nature.

Through Project Dilaab, we aim to build a channel of sustainable products that use no plastic and produce zero toxic-waste which propels our goal of sustainable development and eco-friendliness.

"Providing a clean yet affordable source of relaxation and an aesthetically pleasing candle, while helping the local community of potters and people with disabilities gain a source of steady income and additional community employment"
